Elmdene International Ltd - Celebrates 50 Years

The world might have changed dramatically over the past 50 years but now, celebrating its half century since being incorporated, Elmdene International Limited is still here as Europe’s largest and most recognised Power Supply Manufacturer for the Intruder, Access Control and Fire industries.

Elmdene came from small beginnings, even operating out of one of the owner's garages at one stage but soon established itself as a force to be reckoned with. The 1990s was really the decade when momentum really started to build-up for the business when the first power supply appeared - the 1382-M - which was destined for Modern Alarms (later to become Tyco). At the end of the decade with the power supply product lines being added too, Elmdene briefly split into two sites for extra capacity before moving everything to a new base at Rodney Road, Portsmouth which was to be the company's home for another ten years.

Eventually the success of Elmdene meant that it had outgrown even the Rodney Road site, which proved eventually difficult to operate logistically thanks to soaring demand.

A key landmark for the business, as it grew to record levels, was undoubtedly its acquisition by Potter Electric Signal, LLC - in 2008 - the US-headquartered fire, security and safety company, whose own origins stretch back more than 100 years.

A couple of years after the Potter deal, Elmdene signalled its intention to prepare for the future in confident fashion by moving into its current home, the impressive integrated 55,000 sq ft Interchange Park facility in 2010. This step has dramatically increased capacity by three-fold from what was available to call on before and brought everything together - from testing to assembly and warehousing - under one roof which certainly makes much more sense in terms an efficient and effective modern operation. 

The success of Elmdene looks set to continue well into the future as a loyal and dedicated workforce continue to develop, manufacture, and supply innovative electronic products for the security, access control, CCTV and fire industries around the world.
