Now stocking the New British Standard (BS4737-3.30) for Alarm Cables
During the past few years the Security industry has experienced an increase of sub-standard alarm cables entering the UK market and causing massive problems such as high resistance values or security systems failures.
A new British standard, namely BS4737-3.30 has recently been enforced to combat the supply of any substandard alarm cable and to regulate the quality. This will ensure that only BSI recognised cables are used in security installations within the UK going forward.
Under the new standard there will be 3 types of cable.
Type 1 Alarm cable with a resistance value of less than 100 Ohms/km. LSZH core insulation and outer sheathing. (Low Smoke Zero Halogen).
Type 2 Alarm cable with a resistance value of less than 100 Ohms/km. PVC core insulation and a choice of PVC, LSF, PE or HDPE outer sheathing.
Type 3 Alarm cable with a resistance value of less than 155 Ohms/km. PVC core insulation and a choice of PVC, LSF, PE or HDPE outer sheathing.
All cables conforming to BS4737-3.30 2015 must be clearly marked to indicate either Type 1, 2 or 3 and state the resistance value of its category. The number and date of the new standard (BS 4737-3.30:2015) must also be clearly labelled.
Conductors must be either tinned copper or aluminium constructed in accordance to the standard and maximum resistance values.
This standard will prevent rogue companies being able to offer cheaper products by using substandard materials or reducing cable specifications.
Securiflex is proud of the fact that we are one of the few companies in in our field that work very hard to keep abreast of any legislation changes or new standards that affect the industry that we are in.
